Kilners Engineering Welding Fabrication

Kilner’s Engineering has a diverse range of fabrication services and skilled tradesman covering everything from thin sheet-metal to heavy boiler-making.  This includes Metal Inert Gas (MIG) and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding in a variety of materials including Mild Steel, Stainless Steel and Aluminium. Using the latest Pulse MIG and high frequency AC/DC TIG welding equipment almost any thickness can be processed efficiently with minimal distortion and welding splatter.

Individual components can be drawn from all other sections to form complete welded assemblies, laser or waterjet cut plates can have turned or machined plates attached to form simple or complex products. Once items have been welded they can proceed to further machining or assembly. The diverse combination of equipment, staff and experience available in house allows both simple and complex assemblies to proceed smoothly through the entire manufacturing process.

Kilner’s Engineering can laser cut a variety of materials accurately and efficiently at our Brisbane factory.

Laser cutting has many advantages over Plasma, Oxy, Guillotining, Cropping and Punching.  It is fast to setup from one material to the next and no special tooling is required.  Compared to Oxy and Plasma cutting it only has a small heat affected zone and no mechanical stresses are applied to the material unlike Punching and Guillotining.  Laser cut parts have a high accuracy, a good cut quality and finished parts come straight from the machine.

Finished parts are produced straight from the laser with clean dross free edges on most materials, therefore grinding or finishing is generally not required.  Parts can be accurately and efficiently prototyped before going to full production.  Once a component has been laser cut it can then be folded, formed or machined as required.

Kilner's Engineering Waterjet Cutting Brisbane

Kilner’s Engineering can waterjet cut a wide array of materials and thicknesses.  Exotic materials are our specialty and we can reduce your costs and minimise material wastage through close part nesting.  We have an extensive material database which means we can cut all most all materials without the need for test cutting and specialised setups.

Abrasive waterjet cutting works by mixing high pressure water with garnet to create a focused high velocity stream which erodes the material.  Unlike other profile cutting technologies waterjet cutting is not restricted by material thickness and grade, the cutting speed is simply adjusted to suit the materials cutting parameters.  It is ideally suited to cutting reflective materials such as Stainless Steel, Aluminium, Brass & Copper.

Pure water cutting is another alternative cutting process which we can offer, it is best suited to processing soft materials such as foam, thin rubber, cork and some plastics.

Kilner’s Engineering has a flexible range of turning options available. Investment in high quality Japanese Machine Tools means we can offer a reliable and efficient machining service. Our equipment is programmed and operated by highly experienced tradesmen, this means we can deliver high quality parts with efficiency.

We are setup to handle both simple and complex items. We have a number of 2 Axis lathes which are capable of rapidly producing simple turned components with high accuracy to a budget. We also have multi axis lathes capable of producing complex parts requiring turning, milling, drilling, tapping broaching etc in one setup. The same machine is then able to work on the back of the part through using a second spindle. The finished component is then deposited into a catcher, while the machine starts on the next component.
